The Friends of the Jackson Library is in the midst of its 2016 Membership Drive

The Friends is a group of devoted volunteers which raises money to underwrite children’s, family, and adult programs, lectures, movies and activities. The Friends allows the library to purchase discretionary items that beautify, enhance and expand the library experience but are beyond the scope of the library’s budget. Did you know that, with a Jackson residency and library card, you and three guests can visit the Grounds for Sculpture in Hamilton at no cost to you courtesy of the Friends? Or attend one of the various and extremely popular Adult Craft classes supported by the Friends? All supplies are provided at no cost to you! Our music and children’s entertainment programs (think Grandchildren!) continue to enthrall attendees.

Major projects on the agenda for 2016 include the purchase and installation of a state-of-the-art digital sign for the entrance at West Veterans Highway and a memorial sundial for the gazebo garden, which will provide a truly unique educational opportunity for children, teens, and adults alike. There are unlimited opportunities available in the tri-state area in the fields of art, architecture, history and natural history. The Friends will work toward offering these experiences to you and your families by next turning its time and efforts to applying for a grant that will allow us to purchase passes to a variety of these fun and educational venues.

FOOD! FUN! PRIZES! We are having a Chocolate Friends-y Event with music, chocolate fountain, and prizes on Thursday, February 11th, from 5-8pm in the meeting room at the library. Special prizes will be raffled off for all who join (or renew their membership) by that date.

Membership in the Friends will also allow you early admittance to the Member Preview day of our 2016 Book Sale on the afternoon of Friday, April 29th. This year’s Book Sale will be open to the public beginning on April 30th and continuing from May 2nd through May 7th, Bag Day.

The generosity and community involvement of Westlake’s residents is well-known throughout our town. The Friends of the Jackson Library invites you to turn that philanthropic spirit toward continuing the role of the library as the cultural resource of our community.

On behalf of the Friends of the Jackson Library, I Thank You for your consideration of the cause so close to our hearts.
