Christmas in NYC: The Most Wonderful Place this time of the Year

There’s nothing like a trip to NYC to put you in great spirits at Christmastime. Whether it’s shopping in NYC or visiting the Rockefeller Center tree, it’s hard to not break out into a glow with the spirit and festivities of New York City during the holidays.  You might be a huge fan of visiting NYC museums (and that’s a great day trip idea too), but add onto your day by visiting some of the classic New York City spots that people come from all over the world to enjoy in the month of December. Take the time out this holiday season to relish in the wonder of the holidays with these ideas for a great day trip to NYC. You won’t forget the magic or the memories you’ll make!

Radio City Christmas Show & the Rockefeller Center Tree

Are you in love with the Rockefeller Center tree? We are too! Until January 7, 2016 the tree will be aglow from 5:30 am to 11:30pm. Of course on Christmas the tree will be lit all night and day! If you’re active and enjoy ice-skating, taking a ring around the rink around the center as you bask in the lights of the Rockefeller Center tree is a nice way to get some exercise.. Plus, if you’re with your partner it’s romantic.

Nothing beats a great show however, so if you’re coming into NYC, taking in the Radio City Christmas Show is a fabulous and relaxing way to enjoy the holiday season without standing out in the brisk cold. From now until January 3, 2016, the Radio City Christmas Show is going on at Radio City Music Hall. This show is great for all ages, especially if you love a little dancing—those Rockettes!—and love Christmas music. Truthfully, Christmas in NYC is not complete without the Rockettes.

Shopping in NYC at Holiday Time

The department store windows make shopping in NYC at holiday time such a pleasure. Saks’ Fifth Avenue’s “winter palace” theme which is very much an adult upscale version of the Snow Queen or Frozen, the Saks’ windows are elegant. For some mystical, crystal affair, head to the windows and enjoy some luxe shopping at Bergdorf Goodman! We like the fortune teller window! Lord & Taylor has sweets in their windows and it’s to die for. Warning: you might end up hungry!

If you’re looking for department store fare and big ticket items, staying in Rockefeller Center and a bit further east will lead you to many a store like  Lord & Taylor, Gap, Brookstone, Brooks Brothers, and more!

NYC Museums: Take a Break from the Rush

After you’ve had enough of the lights and the crowds, detour away and head to some of the city’s best museums for some culture, quiet, and reflection.

We love:

  • The Metropolitan Museum of Art
  • MOMA
  • Museum of Jewish Heritage
  • Ellis Island Museum
  • The Frick Collection
  • Whitney Museum of American Art
  • American Museum of National History

No matter how long you spend the day or what you do, a day trip to NYC at holiday time is bound to be a memorable experience you’ll cherish!
